A project to add an auxiliary lane and widen a ramp at the interchange of the 405 and 101 freeways in Sherman Oaks received $9.65 million in funding from the California Transportation Commission, it was announced Thursday.

The project is intended to help alleviate congestion at the notoriously bottlenecked interchange.

It's one of a dozen highway and transit projects statewide to share in $238 million in funding allocated by the California Transportation Commission to boost the state's economy.

"These transportation projects are keeping people employed and working to improve California's highways and transit systems for everyone," Caltrans Director Will Kempton said in a statement.

In Orange County, the city of Orange received $3 million for improvements to Meats Avenue.

In Irvine, Costa Mesa, Fountain Valley and Huntington Beach, $200,000 was allocated for the construction of concrete barriers.
