Back to Winter Weather

The National Weather service is calling for widespread, strong gusty winds on Saturday

It's back to jackets and umbrellas.

The recent rollercoaster weather has taken another turn as cold temperatures, gusty winds, and rain are expected across the Southland.

The National Weather service is calling for widespread, strong gusty winds on Saturday as a cold front works its way down the California Coast. A wind advisory will be in effect from 6am to 3pm Saturday, with gusts up to 40mph possible in some areas.

Rain, heavy at times, is also expected throughout the weekend and into Monday. Rainfall totals are expected to range from 0.75 to 1.50 inches in the lower elevations and as much as 2.50 inches across the mountains. In addition, there will be the threat of thunderstorms as the front moves across the area, the Weather Service said.

A flash flood watch has been issued from Saturday morning through afternoon for the recent burn areas in the Los Angeles County mountains excluding the Santa Monica Range.

Significant snow accumulations are expected in the mountains through the weekend. Elevations above 7000 feet can expect 8 to 16 inches of new snowfall while areas between 5000 and 7000 feet will receive between 5 and 10 inches. Even local accumulations of 2 to 4 inches can be expected between 4000 and 5000 feet, the Weather Service reported.

Drivers, especially those returning on the 15 freeway in the higher elevations, are urged to be cautious as the wet weather and snow could lead to hazardous driving conditions.
