Bill Maher Gets Star on Hollywood Walk of Fame

Comedian Bill Maher will receive the 2,417th star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame Tuesday, three days before his HBO talk show "Real Time with Bill Maher" returns from its summer hiatus to finish the second half of its eighth season.

Talk show host Larry King and Seth MacFarlane will join Maher in speaking in the late-morning ceremony next to the W Hotel at the corner of Hollywood Boulevard and Vine Street.

Born Jan. 20, 1956 in New York City and raised in River Vale, N.J., Maher graduated from Cornell University in 1978, then began a career in stand- up comedy in New York City. Maher was ranked 38th on Comedy Central's 2004 list of the greatest stand-up comics of all time.

Maher is best known as the host of the talk show "Politically Incorrect," which ran on Comedy Central from 1993-97 and ABC from 1997-2002. He has hosted a similar show, "Real Time with Bill Maher" since 2003.

Maher holds the record for most Emmy nominations without a victory -- 26.

Maher is the author of four best-selling books: "True Story," "Does Anybody Have a Problem with That? Politically Incorrect's Greatest Hits," "When You Ride Alone, You Ride with Bin Laden" and "New Rules: Polite Musings from a Timid Observer."

Maher's acting credits include being a cast member of the 1985 NBC comedy "Sara," which starred Geena Davis, and two appearances on "Murder, She Wrote."
