Like Cal State Northridge basketball coach Bobby Braswell doesn’t have enough problems trying to recruit to the San Fernando Valley and overcome the worst facilities in Division I baketball.

His 22-year-old son and the team’s leading scorer this season both have been arrested in connection with the alleged theft of more than $6,600 in merchandise from a Best Buy store.

Jeffrey Robert Braswell, was arraigned Tuesday on one felony count of second-degree commercial burglary and three felony counts of grand theft over $400, according to the District Attorney's Office.

Also charged and expected to be arraigned later this month are Deon Tresvant, 23, who leads the Matadors with 13.3 points per game (he is a former Long Beach City College standout), and little used sub Dallas Rutherford, 19, along with Phannuel Gbewonyo, 28. The three were released on $20,000 bail.

Jeffrey Braswell works at the Best Buy in Porter Ranch, allegedly logged on to a cash register using the password of an employee who was not working on Jan. 1 and allowed his three friends to check out merchandise without paying.

Tresvant was not there for the Matador’s win over UC Davis on Monday night, however coach Braswell refused to comment on the reason for his absense at the time. The Matadors were 5-8 on the season, so it’s not like they were going to the NCAA Tournament anyway.
