County Supervisors Reduce Arts Grants By $100,000
Supervisors unanimously agreed Tuesday to disseminate $4.4 million in grants

The Los Angeles County Board of Supervisors unanimously agreed Tuesday to disseminate $4.4 million in grants to 153 nonprofit arts organizations.
The funding represents a $100,000 reduction from last fiscal year's awards, which supported 155 nonprofits.
The grants, recommended by the Los Angeles County Arts Commission, will fund concerts, theater productions, operas, exhibitions, in- and after-school arts education programs and related staff and operational costs.
Individual grants range from $4,100 to $286,600 and are proportional to the annual budgets of the grantee organizations. The smallest grant went to the Classical Theatre Lab in West Hollywood to fund a dozen free performances; the largest, to the Los Angeles Opera Company to support an educational program for adults and seniors.
The grants are awarded through a peer panel review system organized by discipline and overseen by the arts commissioners. Funding is for a two-year time period, after which organizations may reapply for additional monies.
