Disney Composer to Get Star on Walk of Fame

Composer Alan Menken will receive the 2,422nd star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame Wednesday, honoring a career which has seen him win eight Oscars and 10 Grammys.

Richard Sherman, who co-wrote the songs for ``Mary Poppins,'' ``The Jungle Book,'' ``Winnie the Pooh,'' and ``Chitty Chitty Bang Bang,'' will join Menken in speaking in the 11:30 a.m. ceremony next to the El Capitan Theatre on Hollywood Boulevard.

The ceremony comes two weeks before the release of Walt Disney Pictures' animated take on the story of Rapunzel, ``Tangled,'' which Menken wrote the original music for.

Menken won best original score Oscars for ``The Little Mermaid,'' ``Beauty and the Beast,'' ``Aladdin'' and ``Pocahontas,'' and four Oscars for best song, ``Under the Sea,'' ``Beauty and the Beast,'' ``A Whole New World'' and ``Colors of the Wind.''

His 10 Grammy Awards include Song of the Year for ``A Whole New World.''
