Shhh! Elephant Seals Are Doing It
Updated 12:12 PM PST, Sat, Nov 29, 2008
Elephant seals along Point Reyes National Seashore are being given a chance to mate in peace and quiet.
Park officials said Friday a five-mile stretch of the seashore will be off limits to people and dogs for the next five months, so the animals aren't disturbed while they breed.
The ban through April is in effect south of the South Beach parking lot and at the south end of Drakes Beach.
Park rangers say visitors can view the seals from the overlook near Chimney Rock.
More than a 1,000 seals were seen at Point Reyes last year.
