Full of Surprises: Counterfeiting Suspect's Loft

The counterfeit bills and equipment are only part of the story

Police released more information about what they found in Unit 701 at Reserve Lofts in downtown LA.

Last week, authorities said there were stacks of counterfeit bills, counterfeiting equipment and weapons.

About what you'd expect to find in a counterfeiting suspect's residence.

But they also found a gigantic replica of a Central Intelligence Agency seal in the  floor and framed portrait of Venezuelan President Hugo Chavez on the wall, according to LA Downtown News. The suspect, who eluded Los Angeles police by bounding down a fire  escape with two duffel bags, leaving behind stacks of freshly printed $100  bills, is known to police as Brian Alexik, a 33-year-old man of Russian descent  who has lived in New Jersey.

He also spent a night in jail after a Feb. 4 arrest, the Downtown News  reported. Sheriff's deputies who police buses and trains arrested him, but it  was unclear for what.

The mosaic CIA seal is about 5 feet in diameter and set in the floor,  the newspaper reported.

On April 19, firefighters sent to the $3,400-per-month penthouse he  rented in the 400 block of West Olympic Avenue to check out a noxious odor were  denied entry.

By the time police broke down the door, the mystery man was gone down a  fire escape -- Jason Bourne style.

Detectives noted that the penthouse looks over the U.S. Federal Reserve  building on Grand Avenue.

Police said Alexik also goes by the names Ken Shurin and Briane Alexia.

Photographs found in the apartment show he can adopt different looks.  One shows him clean-cut, with a scar across his forehead. Another image shows  him with longer hair.

On Thursday, police arrested an associate named Gregory Charles Koller,  32, in a raid carried out by SWAT officers near 38th Street and Grand Avenue.  Koller was booked on suspicion of possessing methamphetamine and his bail was  set at $10,000, police said.

Anyone with more information about Alexik should call Detective Daniel  Logan at 213-486-7386 or Detective Angel Vega at 213-216-7340 or 213-486- 7280.
