Gifts For Guns...and Grenades?

The Inglewood Police Department collected more than 100 guns during the first hour of the Gifts for Guns exchange, but the item that caught everyone's attention was the live grenade.
During the weapons collection -- which is designed to take weapons off the street by offering gift cards incentives to those willing to turn in their guns -- an individual came forward and turned in a box of ammunitions and received a $100 American Express gift card.
Police discovered the grenade about an hour after the event started, Lt. Mike McBride of the Inglewood Police Department told the Los Angeles Times.
The bomb squad was called in to quickly dispose of the grenade and there were no major issues.
Police were not expecting the grenade and because the event is based on a "no questions asked policy," no one was charged. However, Inglewood police are urging residents to call ahead if they have any unusual items to turn in such as hand grenades or mortars.
This is the first year the Inglewood event has taken place, but the program has had success in cities throughout LA County.
The program continues Sunday, Nov. 8, from 10:00a.m. to 4:00p.m. behind the Target and Home Depot stores at 3471 West Century Blvd.
