Award-Winning Film Editor Found Dead in Griffith Park

The coroner's office says there were no signs of foul play

Searchers have found a body believed to be a hiker reported missing hours earlier in the Hollywood Hills.

The Los Angeles Times, citing law enforcement sources, identified the victim as 53-year-old Sally Menke, a long-time film editor for director Quentin Tarantino. The Oscar-nominated editor worked on "Pulp Fiction," "Kill Bill" and "Jackie Brown."

Later Tuesday morning, the coroner's office confirmed that the hiker who died was Menke. Assistant coroner Ed Winter Winter said there was no sign of foul play.

He did not say whether Monday's record heat was a factor.

Menke went for a hike with her dog Monday morning in the west Griffith Park area near north Canyon Drive. Friends notified Los Angeles police that she failed to return and her locked car was found later in a parking lot in Griffith Park.

Searchers on foot and horseback and a police helicopter crew scoured the hills.

Officer Sara Faden said searchers found the body at 2:15 a.m.

The Bronson Canyon hike is described as a great hike if you want something that isn't incredibly crowded.

Cinema Blend found this video of Tarantino and the cast and crew of "Death Proof" sending hellos to Sally. Be warned, this video has Tarantino-caliber language (read: not safe for work, not safe for children and not safe for the weak of heart).
