LAPD Calls Tactical Alert in Watts After Shooting

Los Angeles police shot an armed man Thursday in Watts, prompting large crowds to gather in the area and police to issue a citywide tactical alert.

The officer-involved shooting occurred around 5 p.m. near 114th and Grape streets, said Officer Gregory Baek of the Los Angeles Police Department.

``Officers patrolling the area encountered a man with a gun, and that is when the officer-involved shooting occurred,'' Baek said.

The man was taken to a hospital in unknown condition, he said.

The citywide tactical alert was canceled at 6:45 p.m., Baek said.

No officers were injured in the shooting.
