Griffith Park: LA's 4,200-Acre Film Star

Venice Beach, a few bridges and the 2nd Street tunnel also make the cut

Griffith Park tops the list of LA's busiest film locations, according to rankings released by FilmLA.Inc.

The organization handles film permits in LA. Officials said the 4,210-acre park, which is usually among the most popular places to film, was the busiest public site for on-location sites in the first quarter of 2010.

The LA Film report said there were 150 "production days" at the park this year. Those shoots included commercials for AT&T and McDonald's, and scenes for "Desperate Housewives," "Criminal Minds" and "NCIS: Los Angeles."

Here are the top 10 public locations for the first quarter of 2010:

Tony Salome, location manager for "NCIS: Los Angeles," told the LA Times he can even count how many times he's shot scenes in the park, which has miles of hiking trails, the famous carousel, fantastic views of the Valley, mountains to the east, LA basin and -- on a clear day -- the ocean.

And, of course, it has the Observatory.

"It's relatively easy to use, it's cheap and you can film pretty much anything there," Salome told the Times.
