TOLUCA LAKE, Calif. -- The 1 millionth pothole in Los Angeles will be filled Monday in Toluca Lake as part of "Operation Pothole," which city officials say is the nation's largest pothole repair effort.

Mayor Antonio Villaraigosa will shovel in the asphalt to fill the millionth pothole following a news conference at Valley Spring Lane and Strohm Avenue, according to the Mayor's Office.

Over three years, city workers have fixed about 1 million potholes, street cracks and damaged streets.

When the 800,000th pothole was filled in March, a study group funded by the construction industry reported that the city had the bumpiest roads in California, with 65 percent of them needing repair.

It costs the city $5 to $21 to fix a pothole in the city, according to the Department of Street Services.
