A La Quinta resident, after an attempt to throw off police, now sits in an Indio jail without his clothes -- or a whole lot of dignity.

The 23-year-old man, identified as Larry Gilbert, was arrested on suspicion of robbery and filing a false police report after he called to report that someone had robbed him of his clothes while he stood waiting for the bus on Avenue 50 and Washington Street at 5:22 p.m.

It was the second reported robbery in the area in just 30 minutes, and police quickly linked the two together.

Moments before,  at 4:55 p.m., a 60-year-old woman reported a robbery at her home on Saguaro Drive in La Quinta, according to La Quinta police Sgt. Mark Hoyt.

"The victim said that a man wearing a ski mask pointed a handgun at her in her home," Hoyt said. The victim was able to run out of the house and was not hurt, he said.

She told police that the suspect "jumped a wall and ran toward Avenue 50 and Washington Street."

As the police arrived to investigate the second robbery, they noticed the alleged victim looked a whole lot like the man described in the first robbery.

"We determined that the man filing the second police report was the man who robbed the home in the first reported incident," Hoyt said

Gilbert was arrested on suspicion of robbery and filing a false police report, according to police. He was booked into Indio Jail and is being held on  $150,000 bail.
