Engine Woes Ground LA-Bound Plane in Fiji

For the second time in a week, a Qantas flight from Sydney, Australia, to Los Angeles International Airport was interrupted due to engine trouble, and passengers were grounded in Fiji until a replacement plane brings them to the Southland on Wednesday.

Qantas Flight 107 was diverted to the Nadi Airport in Fiji late Monday night or early Tuesday morning because of an "apparent fuel valve problem" in the number four engine of the Boeing 747-400, according to a report in the Australian Business Traveller,

Another plane was sent to pick up the stranded passengers, and they were expected to land in Los Angeles around noon Wednesday, according to the magazine.

A Qantas spokeswoman in Los Angeles was not immediately available for comment.

On Saturday, a Qantas flight from Sydney to Los Angeles was delayed when a loud bang was heard and smoke began pouring from one of the engines on the 747. The passengers were transferred to another flight, which took off about four hours later.
