The incident took place at an apartment building on Palm Avenue near Santa Monica Boulevard around 9:30 p.m., sheriff’s officials said.
Sheriff's deputies responded to an assualt with a deadly weapon call after reports of a man with a knife. Upon arrival, deputies encountered two men exiting the apartment with a knife. The men allegedly attacked the deputies and the altercation resulted in gunshots being fired by deputies.
The deputies then entered the apartment and found two men fighting and choking one another. Deputies stopped the fight and the men were detained, sheriff's officials said.
All four men were taken to area hospitals. A 24-year-old man died as a result of the gunshot wound incurred during the shooting, sheriff's officials said. The other three men suffered non-life threatening stab wounds and are in stable condition.
It was unclear how the violence broke out.
Last Saturday night, a man was accused of stabbing his roommate to death in the same building before trying to kill himself. However, it was unclear whether the two incidents were connected.
