1 Dead, 5 Injured After Teenage Girl Carjacks SUV, Crashes Into Another Vehicle: Police

A teenage girl who carjacked a vehicle from a nearby shopping center ran a red light and slammed into another vehicle, killing one person and injuring four others in a family including a toddler Sunday in Palmdale, according to the sheriff's department and media reports from the scene.

The action which ended at 10th Street West and Palmdale Boulevard in a violent crash, began about 3 p.m., the sheriff's department said.

The crash injured five people in the vehicle that was hit by the suspected carjacker. Those people were taken to a hospital for treatment.

One of the victims died at the hospital, said Deputy Kimberly Alexander. There's no word on the age or gender of the deceased. The person's name will be withheld pending family notification. The condition of the other four surviving victims was unknown.

The unnamed, suspected carjacker was also injured and taken to a hospital for treatment, Alexander said. Her condition was unknown at this point.
