1 Killed in Multi-Vehicle Crash on 101 Freeway in Sherman Oaks

One person was killed and another person was injured Sunday morning in a multi-vehicle crash on the 101 Freeway in Sherman Oaks, prompting lane closures and a traffic backup, officials said. 

The crash ocurred on on the northbound freeway at Woodman Avenue occurred shortly after 2:40 a.m., according to California Highway Patrol.

One person was pronounced dead at the scene, CHP said. 

Another person was transported to an area hospital in unknown condition.

All lanes of the northbound 101 Freeway at Coldwater Canyon Avenue were shut down shortly after the crash. The freeway was reopened about 7:10 a.m. 

The cause of the crash was under investigation.
