Three seniors were hospitalized during the weekend after brownies laced with marijuana were served at a memorial gathering in Huntington Beach.

The brownies were served in memory of the deceased at a Saturday service. According to investigators there were 100 people in the banquet room at Meadolark Golf Course and  the daughter of the man who had died announced that she had baked the brownies using medical marijuana.

"Some of  [the people in attendance] knew and some didn't," said Lt. Russell Reinhart of the Huntington Beach Police Department.

Friends of the deceased say that he had cancer and the marijuana was for his medical use.

Two women, both 71, and an 82-year-old man who ate the brownies were hospitalized after the memorial service. They complained of nausea, dizziness and an inability to stand without assistance.

A spokeswoman for Meadowlark Golf Course said that there had not been a memorial gathering there.
