15-Year-Old Boy Injured After Being Knocked Down By Tree Branch

A 15-year-old boy suffered injuries Tuesday when he was knocked down by a branch from a tree that fell in Panorama City.

Firefighters responded just before 7 p.m. to the 8000 block of Ranchito Avenue, near Boxwood Place, according to Amy Bastman of the Los Angeles Fire Department. The boy's injuries, scratches to his legsw, were not life-threatening but he was taken to a hospital for treatment, Bastman said.

It was not immediately clear what caused the tree to fall.

Residents were not surprised. They said branches and trees frequently fall in the neighborhood. Several people have tried contacting the city numerous times to remove the teetering trees, but said they have yet to receive a response.

"Something needs to be done," Irina Vasquez said.

Crews cut the tree into smaller segments, which were removed Wednesday morning. Another tree in the neighborhood also was removed.

NBC4's Adrian Arambulo contributed to this story.
