Teen Alleging Sexual Assault in South LA Changes Story, Police Say

Police said the alleged victim ran away from home.

Police were investigating conflicting versions of what happened to a 15-year-old girl who claimed she was kidnapped and sexually assaulted after she met a man at a Jack in the Box in South Los Angeles.

The girl ran away from her home in Yucaipa and met the man at a Jack in the Box near the intersection of S. Figueroa Street and Imperial Highway on Monday, according to the Los Angeles Police Department.

Police said when she met the man, the encounter did not go as she had planned. She claimed she may have been drugged, then kidnapped and sexually assaulted.

The girl realized she was in danger at the man's house on Hoover Street and Imperial Highway, police said. The victim yelled for help and a neighbor called 911.

The victim was transported to a hospital where she was in fair condition.

Later Tuesday morning, the girl changed her story, police said, and she may not have been kidnapped. Investigators believe she may have gone willingly to the apartment with people she met at the restaurant.

Police said a man suspected of being involved in the assault was well-known in the area, but no arrests had been made.

For now, police said they are not identifying the alleged attacker and no arrests had been made.
