18-Year-Old Arrested After UC Santa Barbara Fraternity Fight, Stabbing, Authorities Say

Authorities arrested a man suspected of stabbing a 21-year-old in a fight outside a fraternity near the University of California, Santa Barbara on Saturday, officials said.

The suspect, 18-year-old Kevin Ruiz, and three others were detained by a UCSB police officer at about 2:45 a.m., the Santa Barbara County Sheriff's Office said.

Covered in blood and attempting to flee the scene, the four were involved in a fight in front of the fraternity in the 6700 block of Sueno Road early Saturday morning, the statement said.

The victim, a UCSB student, was found at the fraternity with stab wounds to his head and chest. He was taken to Santa Barbara Cottage Hospital and remains in stable condition, officials said.

Ruiz, a Reseda native, was booked on a charge of assault with a deadly weapon and taken to Santa Barbara County Jail.
