2 Arrested After 1,000 Marijuana Plants, Weapons Seized in Riverside

Two men were arrested Thursday after police discovered an alleged marijuana growing operation and weapons at a home in Riverside.

Detectives served a search warrant at a home in the 1900 block of Monroe Street after receiving a tip regarding an illegal marijuana cultivation last month, according to the Riverside Police Department.

During the search, a man, later identified as 32-year-old Enrique Mendez, exited the home. A second man, identified as Miguel Angel Camacho-Arreola, 28, fled the garage into the rear of the residence and could not be seen, police said. Both men were located and apprehended by police without incident.

Police found five separate marijuana cultivation sites, a loaded handgun and an AR-15-style assault rifle on the property. The marijuana sites contained approximately 1,100 illegal marijuana plants weighing over 730 pounds, according to police.

Mendez, who resides in Moreno Valley, and Camacho-Arreola from Riverside, were arrested on suspicion of illegal cultivation and sales of marijuana, possession of an assault rifle, possession of an unregistered firearm and illegal ammunition, police said. Both subjects were booked into the Robert Presley Detention Center.

The investigation is ongoing.
