2 Dead After Vehicle Crashes Into Tree, Catches Fire

Two people were killed after their vehicle crashed into a tree near South Los Angeles and caught fire early Tuesday morning, police said.

The crash was reported around 1 a.m. near the intersection of 58th and S. Figueroa Streets, according to the Los Angeles Police Department. The vehicle caught fire and the passengers were trapped inside the vehicle, according to the LAPD.

Two people died at the scene. It was unclear if any other occupants were inside the vehicle.

Police closed the intersection of 58th and Figueroa Streets, and nearby 57th Street as they investigated the crash.
