2 Tree Trimmers Killed After Crane Catches Fire in Coachella Valley

Two tree trimmers were killed Saturday after the crane they were operating made contact with power lines and caught fire in Riverside County, officials said.

The incident was reported just before 11 a.m. in the 68600 block of Harrison Street in Thermal, an unincorporated community within the Coachella Valley, according to the Riverside County Fire Department.

The two workers were cutting palm fronds when the crane's bucket they were operating made contact with active power lines, and leaking oil from the lift sparked a fire, officials said.

The crane was fully involved in flames.

No further details were immediately available.
