Two turkeys hit the quality-of-life jackpot thanks to local activist and author Karen Dawn.

Dawn spent $2.49 a pound to purchase Monty (33 pounds) and Marsha (20 pounds). The turkeys are spending the next few days luxuriating on the ocean-view patio of her Pacific Palisades home.

"After Thanksgiving, they will live out the rest of their days at Santa Clarita sanctuary Gentle Barn, unlike 65 million of their kind who will be eaten this year on holiday tables," said Dawn's spokesman Gary Smith.
