Three men were arrested over the weekend in connection with a spate of armed robberies near the UC Riverside campus that forced university police to beef up patrols, according to a UCR spokesman.

Authorities identified the suspects as Xavier Vining, 20; Doneal Lewis Cephus, 18; and Markeith Shavers, 19. All of the men are from Moreno Valley.

They are suspected of carrying out a series of at least five armed robberies, one of which was in a campus parking garage. The attacks all happened between 8:05 and 8:50 p.m. on Jan. 16, authorities said. All but one of the victims was uninjured in the robberies.

Investigators are not searching for any more suspects at this time, said Kris Lovekin, UCR spokesman.

University and Riverside police are investigating the crimes. Anyone with information is asked to call Det. Rick Cobb at 951-353-7135 or Det. Rick Wheeler at 951-353-7134.
