4 in Custody After Police Pursuit Connected to Fatal Lincoln Heights Shooting

Two men and two women were taken into custody in Hacienda Heights in connection with a fatal car-to-car shooting and police pursuit Tuesday morning, police said.

The Los Angeles Police Department said the four were arrested, and they would be seeking charges.

The pursuit began after a shooting was reported around 2 a.m. near Broadway and Griffin Avenue in Lincoln Heights, according to the Los Angeles Police Department. The male victim was inside a vehicle with an Uber sticker on the windshield, police said.

Police said the victim was struck after the suspected SUV approached him and eight gunshots were fired. The victim was pronounced dead at the scene, according to the LAPD.

Officers saw an SUV with possibly two or three occupants inside that matched the description of the vehicle involved in the shooting, according to the LAPD.

The SUV fled from police and a pursuit was initiated, according to the LAPD. California Highway Patrol officers took over the pursuit on the eastbound 10 Freeway just east of the 605 Freeway, according to the CHP.

They later exited Hacienda Boulevard and traveled southbound toward the 60 Freeway, where the vehicle stopped without incident, according to the CHP.

CHP officers found four occupants inside the SUV. All four people, two men and two women, were taken into custody, according to the CHP.

The two men are known gang members, according to the LAPD.

Police said the men and women only surrendered to authorities after the SUV apparently ran out of gas.

Detectives said they were checking the status of the vehicle with the Uber sticker, which could be a decoy criminals use to conceal their crimes, according to the LAPD.

Police and Uber officials confirmed the victim was not a driver for the ride-sharing service.
