4-Month-Old Killed, Woman Injured in Crash in Downey

A 4-month-old boy was killed and a 21-year-old woman was injured when an SUV and a pickup truck crashed in Downey Saturday.

The crash was reported at 1:54 a.m. at the intersection of Firestone Boulevard and Brookshire Avenue, according to Downey police Sgt. Jaime Pelayo.

A Mercedes SUV, driven by a 23-year-old man going southbound on Brookshire through the intersection, struck a Chevrolet Silverado, driven by a 34-year-old man who was going eastbound on Firestone, Pelayo said.

The SUV's rear-seated passengers, the 4-month-old boy and the 21-year-old woman, were rushed to an area hospital, where the boy was pronounced dead, Pelayo said.

The 21-year-old woman's injuries were not considered life-threatening, according to Sgt. P. Miller of the Downey Police Department.

Both drivers suffered only minor injuries, Pelayo said. It was not immediately known if either driver was cited or arrested.

Downey police asked anyone who saw the crash to call them at 562-904-2339.
