Buckets of Pot, No Barrel of Laughs

TEMECULA, Calif. -- Border Patrol agents found several five-gallon buckets packed with 156 pounds of marijuana during a traffic stop in Temecula.

The bust occurred Monday afternoon on Interstate 15 when a drug-sniffing dog found the drugs in 12 buckets in the back of a sport utility vehicle. Agents found the marijuana wrapped in plastic and covered with an industrial adhesive to conceal the smell and avoid detection.

The Border Patrol said the 23-year-old driver was taken into custody on suspicion of smuggling drugs.

Since Oct. 1, the Border Patrol has seized more than 9,700 pounds of marijuana in the San Diego sector.
