Two Killed When Big Rig, Truck Collide on Pomona Freeway

The crash involving a box truck and big rig scattered soda cans, water bottles and other debris on the freeway

Two people were killed Wednesday morning in a crash involving two trucks that forced lane closures for several hours on the 60 Freeway in Pomona.

A rescue helicopter crew landed on the freeway to transport a third victim. Details regarding the victim's injuries were not immediately available.

All lanes were reopened by about 3 p.m. after crews cleaned up debris and wreckage resulting from the crash, which involved a cargo box truck and big rig near the 71 Freeway. Aerial video recorded shortly after the collision showed soda cans, water bottles and other items from the box truck spread across several freeway lanes.

The crash led to backups on both sides of the freeway.The big rig was on the side of the freeway when it was struck by the truck. The big rig driver and a passenger in the box truck were killed.

The box truck driver was hospitalized.

The identities of the victims and the condition of the hospitalized truck driver were not released.
