62-Year-Old Woman Robbed at Gunpoint Inside Irvine Apartment

A 62-year-old woman was robbed at gunpoint Saturday inside her Irvine apartment, authorities said.

The woman had just returned from a short walk at 9:35 a.m. to her apartment in the 600 block of Hayes Street, said the Irvine Police Department's Kim Mohr.

"Immediately after she entered her residence, an armed gunman came in through an unlocked door and demanded cash and the jewelry she was wearing," Mohr said. The victim complied and the suspect fled the apartment with gold jewelry and $300 in cash.

Police arrived within minutes of the robbery and conducted an extensive search of the area, she said. The suspect was not located.

He is described as black, in his late 20s with short black hair and a medium build, Mohr said. He was wearing a black and red striped sweatshirt and black pants. The victim told police she believed the suspect followed her home from her walk.

Anyone with information was asked to call Irvine police Detective Keith Herter at 949-724-7183.
