65-Year-Old Man Dies After Trying to Save Neighbors From Sunland Fire

All four residents of the home were displaced and aided by the American Red Cross.

A man was killed after trying to rescue his neighbors Wednesday night from their burning Sunland home.

The fire broke out just after 9:30 p.m. Wednesday in the garage area of a residential home. Firefighters prevented flames from spreading to the house.

The 65-year-old man attempted to pull his neighbors from a burning home in the 10700 block of N. Big Bend Ave when he went into cardiac arrest on the outside of the building, according to authorities.

A 49-year-old woman suffered minor burns and an 89-year-old resident was taken to the hospital for due to breathing problems. Updates on their conditions were not immediately available.

More than 30 firefighters were on the scene. The crews took less than 20 minutes to extinguish the flames.
