7 Children Removed From Cockroach-Infested Home

A 31-year-old mother faces child neglect charges after her seven children were found living among rats and an infestation of cockroaches at their high desert home, deputies said.

During a probation-related search of the Twentynine Palms home on Saturday, deputies allegedly discovered what appeared to be animal feces on the bedroom floor where everyone slept, and the floor covered in water from clogged plumping, the San Bernardino County Sheriff's Department said in a news release.

The home in the 72600 block of Foothill Drive also had almost no food in it and trash strewn all over, deputies said. Large rats ran around the garage and roaches infested several areas.

"The conditions at the house were uninhabitable," the release said.

The mother, Danielle Reid, was arrested and held on $100,000 bail.

The county's Department of Children and Family Services took custody of the children.

Deputies made the discovery after arresting two Twentynine Palms men during a traffic stop earlier in the day. One of the men, 31-year-old Arsenio Jones, was on probation for a narcotics offense, which led to the search of the home.
