7-Year-Old Boy Accidentally Shot Dead in Inland Empire

A boy died after being accidentally shot in Adelanto Thursday.

When deputies arrived at the home on the 18000 block of Bellflower Street just before 5 p.m. family members were performing CPR on 7-year-old Daniel Cervantes, a San Bernardino County Sheriff’s Department spokesman said.

The boy was taken by ambulance to Victor Valley Global Hospital in critical condition, but later died.

Neighbor Tim Wells said he did not hear a gunshot, but saw the commotion as Cervantes was being taken away.

"(The paramedic) came out with the kid in his hands  and then they put him in, then took off real quick," Wells said.

Investigators have yet to reveal who shot the boy, or who owned the gun. The type of weapon involved in the shooting has also yet to be disclosed.

Cervantes' family had just moved to the area from Las Cruces in New Mexico the day prior to the shooting.

The family have been cooperating with the investigation, a sheriff's department spokesman said.
