7-Year-Old History Buff Meets Real-Life War Heroes

A young boy's fascination is connecting lives and bringing together an unlikely band of brothers.

A 7-year-old SoCal boy's fascination with World War II is bridging the generation gap, connecting lives and bringing together an unlikely band of brothers.

Jacob is a war history buff. So when his mother Kathy saw a story on NBC4 that profiled three World War II veterans who finally got their diplomas after more than 70 years, she wanted to connect them with her son.

Jacob was introduced to Tony Romero and Julian Lopez at the American Military Museum in South El Monte.

Romero and Lopez dropped out of school to fight in the war.

Their war stories for little Jacob brought what he knew from TV shows like "Band of Brothers" to life.

"He [Jacob] really enjoyed watching the teamwork, camaraderie, leadership and what they had to go through," Kathy said.

Lopez said he is "amazed" that a 7-year-old has so much knowledge about World War II.

"Makes me very proud to have served that little guys like him wanted to know what we had done in the military," Lopez added.

Jacob's mother said she hopes he remembers the moment he met real-life war heroes for a lifetime.
