A Pearl Harbor Survivor Remembers That Fateful Day

Now, he shares his front row to history with school children

Dec. 7, 2011 marked the 70th anniversary of a date that will live in infamy, though the number of survivors who can share what they witnessed that day is dwindling.

But a North Hollywood accountant has made it his business to let people know of the horror Americans experienced during the attack on Pearl Harbor.

Jack Rogo is 90 years old but he is not letting age stop him from sharing his story. He is a Pearl Harbor survivor.

“You know you witnessed it,” he said, “but you don’t remember how you witnessed it.”

Rogo was a Navy Storekeeper Third Class on that fateful morning.

“All of a sudden, I saw that catastrophic sight! It was hard to comprehend,” he said.
Today, he is only semi-retired from his accounting business.

He got a tattoo at age 86.

And now, he shares memories of Pearl Harbor with school children, giving them an eyewitness account to history.

What he tries to convey, he said, is that war is not fun and games.

He had a front row seat to its chaos, misery and devastating loss.
