Crowds Gather for 31st Annual AIDS Walk Los Angeles

Road closures in West Hollywood in effect Sunday

Thousands of people participated in the 31st annual AIDS Walk Los Angeles fundraiser in West Hollywood Sunday.

The event began in West Hollywood Park at 10 a.m., and prompted street closures through the evening.

Since its inception in 1985, AIDS Walk Los Angeles has benefitted AIDS Project Los Angeles, an organization dedicated to reducing HIV incidence, improving the lives of those with HIV and advocating for HIV-related public policy.

In its three decades, AIDS Walk Los Angeles has raised nearly $75 million and attracted more than half a million participants, according to West Hollywood city officials.

The following road closures were in effect in the area starting at 6 a.m.:

San Vicente Boulevard from Santa Monica Boulevard to Melrose Avenue and Beverly Boulevard from Kings Road to San Vicente Boulevard will be closed until 6 p.m. The east side only of San Vicente Boulevard from Beverly Boulevard to Melrose Avenue will be closed until 3 p.m.

Other road closures in the area ending at 2 p.m. include La Brea Avenue from Melrose Avenue to Beverly Boulevard, Beverly Boulevard from La Brea Avenue to Flores Street and Beverly Boulevard from Kings Road to San Vicente Boulevard.

Melrose Avenue from San Vicente Boulevard to La Brea Avenue will be closed until 1 p.m. Robertson Boulevard from Melrose Avenue to Santa Monica Boulevard will be closed until 12:30 p.m.
