SWAT Officer Shoots Suspect: Authorities say a West Covina SWAT officer shot and killed a suspect who was holding a gun to a hostage's head. Los Angeles County Sheriff's Deputy Lillian Peck says a police sharpshooter hit 35-year-old John Aguilera in the torso through an upstairs window Sunday, and he was declared dead at the scene. LAUSD to Vote on Parcel Tax: The Los Angeles Unified School District board was expected to vote Tuesday on whether to put a parcel tax on the June 8 ballot that would help ease its budget crisis. If approved by two-thirds of voters, the $100 per-parcel tax increase would generate $92.5 million per year for schools over four years, the Daily News reported.

Overturned Big Rig Closes 60 Freeway: A big rig overturned today on the Pomona (60) Freeway, blocking an on-ramp and one lane during morning traffic and necessitating a SigAlert, the California Highway Patrol reported. The crash was reported at 6:17 a.m. on the southbound Azusa Avenue on- ramp to the eastbound 60, said CHP Officer Francisco Villalobos.
Socks Count: To count the homeless in Los Angeles during the upcoming Census, the city wants people to donate socks to be offered to transients in the hope that they will come forward, according to the Los Angeles Mayor's Office of the Census. The month-long sock drive to support the U.S. Census Bureau's homeless enumeration program March 29-31 is being called "Make the Homeless Count."
