A newborn boy who was reported abducted from the Bay Area was found safely on Wednesday as Mexican officials located him and his father near the border, police said.

The father, a 22-year-old Sunnyvale, Calif., resident, was stopped at a checkpoint in Mexico near Arizona when authorities discovered the warrant for his arrest, according to the Sunnyvale Police Department.

Mesut Guler was arrested and his 2-week-old son was found unharmed, police said.

Police said in a release that Guler is the baby's father after earlier reports regarding relationship between the man and the baby was not immediately clear.

U. S. Border Patrol is coordinating with Mexican Authorities on the transfer of Guler and his son to U.S. authorities, police said,

The vehicle wanted in a statewide Amber Alert involving the infant boy was spotted in San Diego earlier Wednesday, officials said.

Authorities issued the alert for the Bay Area infant, who was reportedly abducted Tuesday afternoon by a 22-year-old man.

The baby's name is Henry Guler-Romero, according to the National Center for Missing & Exploited Children. The suspect's is Mesut Guler, 22. The infant was described as Hispanic and the suspect was described as Turkish.

Guler was believed to be driving a tan, 2004 GMC Envoy, license plate No. 6HIL892, with a large American eagle on the rear window.

The abduction reportedly happened 4 p.m. on Tuesday in the Bay Area city of Sunnyvale, Calif.

San Diego police told NBC San Diego the suspect’s cell phone signal was detected between 9 and 10 p.m. Tuesday in the Kearny Mesa area.

A vehicle matching the description of the suspect’s SUV with the same license plate number was spotted near Interstate 805 and Balboa Avenue and in the Hillcrest area which is about 3 miles from downtown San Diego.

The California Highway Patrol is handling the investigation.

The suspect's vehicle description was posted on highway signs around the county.
