Adoptable Pups to Bear Rings, Flowers at Valentine's Weddings

A quartet of home-needing Havanese honeybuns'll serve as ring bearers and flower girls for several lucky San Diego couples.

What to Know

  • Thursday, Feb. 14
  • Weddings at the San Diego County assessor, recorder, and clerk offices
  • 8 to 10 a.m.

The perfect nuptialing, it is often and accurately said, is in the details.

Which means that a wedding will often be made even more joyful by including just the right poem, just the right guitarist, or a tiny adoptable Havanese puppy serving as your flower girl.

That last adorable element will furrily fold into several civil San Diego-based wedding ceremonies on the morning of Thursday, Feb. 14.

Yep, that's Valentine's Day, and a quartet of four Havanese puppies from the Helen Woodward Animal Center in Rancho Santa Fe will dress up and call upon a few governmental offices (San Diego County, Assessor, Recorder, and Clerk), should a marrying couple wish to include the cutest ring bearer or flower girl ever.

As if anyone wouldn't wish that.

We mentioned the pups'll be in their wedding finery, yes? We mean, we can't even not say "we can't even," because, honestly, we can't.

Marigold, Messini, Martha, and Mykonos were born to Mamma Mia, a stray taken in by a fellow rescue organization. They're not even two months old yet, meaning the "awwws" will be audible throughout the San Diego government buildings on the morning of Valentine's Day.

There are more "awwws" to emit, however. All four pups will go up for adoption on, yes, Valentine's Day, making the celebratory occasion even happier.

First, they'll serve as flower girls and ring bearers for a caboodle of in-love duos, and then they find their forever homes.

Did we confirm that we can't even? We couldn't then, and we can't now.

San Diego County Assessor Ernest J. Dronenberg, Jr. is looking forward to the fun day. "We are happy to share the love at the County, making everyone's wedding ceremony more memorable while helping these adorable Valentine's Day puppies find a forever home."

Photos with the furry ones? Couples will surely want to snap a few. But the pups won't hang around the civic buildings for long. They'll head back to the Helen Woodward Animal Center, where their adoptions will begin, an emotion-filled ending to an emotion-sweet day.

Eager to bond with one of these beauties? Adoptions open on noon on Feb. 14 at the center. Find adoption applications and more at the Helen Woodward Animal Center site.
