The anticipation. The tears. The water-proof mascara. Like any pageant worth its salt, such are the requisite nail-biting moments that made up LA's annual Rose Queen selection.

Today, 16-year old Arcadia resident Natalie Innocenzi gleefully accepted the royal title. She will hold court over the 2010 Pasadena Tournament of Roses, and will wave to the adoring crowds from a rose-bedazzled float in the 121st Rose Parade on New Year's Day.

Innocenzi was chosen for the honor -- which also involves a year-long role of making public appearances and attending media functions (150 of them, or more) -- after a month-long process involving more than 1,100 potental royals.

According to the Tournament of Roses Web site, Innocenzi is a member of her school's junior varsity tennis team, does track and field and is on the board for the Alzheimer's Foundation of America Teens.
