‘Anchorman' Exhibit Opens at Newseum

"Anchorman: The Exhibit" will remain open through August 31, 2014

The Newseum in Washington, D.C., opened a brand-new exhibit Thursday that’s, well, kind of a big deal.

“Anchorman: The Exhibit” is entirely dedicated to the comedic film franchise which, as fans will recall, features funnyman Will Ferrell as San Diego-based, 1970s-era newsman Ron Burgundy.

Hence, it’s appropriate the exhibit be housed in the Newseum, a museum known for its extensive collection of artifacts dedicated to journalism and the news business.

According to Newseum officials, “Anchorman: The Exhibit” features props, costumes and footage from the 2004 “Anchorman” film. This includes a recreation of the KVWN-TV anchor desk and news set and costumes (think polyester leisure suits) worn by the Channel 4 Evening News Team.

Also on display: the original “jazz flute” prop played gloriously and effortlessly by Ron Burgundy during one of the film’s most memorable scenes.

The whip used by rival anchorman Arturo Mendez during the movie’s fight scene between rival news teams can also been seen at the exhibit.

In addition to the displays, visitors can step in front of the camera themselves and participate in an “Anchorman”-themed TV spot at one of the Newseum’s “Be a TV Reporter” stations.

As the camera rolls, Burgundy’s voice provides a snappy newsman-type introduction, and fans can live out their dream of being part of the Channel 4 crew. News Team, assemble!

If that's not enough to leave fans in a "glass case of emotion" and state of excitement, the exhibit also includes clips from the movie and special commentary by Ferrell.

Luckily, fans have plenty of time to check it out, as museum officials say the exhibit will remain open through August 31, 2014.

The exhibit comes in anticipation of the upcoming sequel, “Anchorman 2: The Legend Continues,” which hits theaters on Dec. 20.

Over the spring and summer, the “Anchorman” crew was in San Diego filming the sequel. In May, a casting call for movie extras yielded a huge turnout, followed by filming at SeaWorld San Diego, where Ron Burgundy himself took the spotlight.
