LA Area Animal Shelters Offering Free Pet Adoptions Through Monday

Many animal shelters across the Southland will be offering free pet adoptions during the "Black Friday" weekend and into "Cyber Monday."

The Riverside County Department of Animal Services is waiving all adoption fees at its largest animal shelters Saturday to encourage visitors to give a home to a four-legged friend this holiday season.

"Sure, you might be able to get a great deal on a TV on Black Friday, but a dog or cat will love you back forever,'' said Robert Miller, director of Riverside County Animal Services. "We think a great way to celebrate this holiday week is by adding a new family member.''

The Thousand Oaks, San Jacinto and Blythe shelters will waive spay/neuter, microchipping and vaccination fees for dogs and cats. Such adoptions normally cost as much as $105 for dogs and $65 for kittens.

Animal Services officials warn, however, that some adopters may have to pay for a $16 dog license, depending on where they live. Adopters must also present valid identification.

The city of Los Angeles is working with Zappos.com and Best Friends Animal Shelter to cover the cost of adoption, spaying or neutering, vaccination and microchipping fees from Black Friday through Cyber Monday.
