Freeze and Fire Warnings Issued in Southern California

The cities of Lancaster and Palmdale are among the areas that could be affected by freezing temperatures

Overnight temperatures in the 20s prompted freeze warnings for the Antelope Valley as other parts of Southern California prepared for a day of warm, dry and windy weather.

A freeze warning was issued for the Antelope Valley, including the cities of Lancaster and Palmdale. The warning expired at 9 a.m. after overnight lows in the 20s and 30s.

Protective measures were advised to save crops and sensitive vegetation.

Vulnerable animals and pets should also be kept indoors in a house or barn, while exposed pipes should be wrapped to keep them from bursting.

The freezing overnight temperatures contrast with warm conditions that developed over much of the region Tuesday. Heat, low humidity and winds prompted a red flag fire weather warning that will be in effect through Tuesday evening in Ventura and Los Angeles county mountains.

Wind gusts might reach 40 mph through 8 p.m.
