Broken Water Pipe Leads Police to Extensive Indoor Marijuana Grow

About 700 plants seized in bust of empty Arcadia home with "sophisticated" marijuana operation, police say

A realtor checking on a broken water pipe at a client's home discovered a sprawling marijuana cultivation operation in a Los Angeles-area home's basement Saturday, police said.

The realtor notified Arcadia police, who found about 700 marijuana plants being grown in various rooms around the house in the 200 block of east Newman Avenue at about 7 a.m., according to an Arcadia Police Department news release.

Detectives "found the majority of the residence being used as a sophisticated, indoor marijuana grow operation," the statement said.

The building had lighting, ventilation, irrigation and other grow-related technology, and was bypassing the electricity meter, police said. The grow did not appear to detectives to be related to medical marijuana.

No one was in the home when police arrived, police said. The realtor was apparently notified by the home's owner, who was out of town and heard about the broken pipe from a neighbor.

Police ask anyone with information about the incident to call 626-574-5151.
