Donations on Track to Restore Ransacked Archery Club

Donations are replacing most of the $3,500 worth of arrows and equipment that were taken

The Pasadena Roving Archers Club braced themselves for increased interest in Archery following the premiere of the hit film "The Hunger Games." But what they didn't expect was what happened next.

The club's storage facility was broken into and most of the bows and arrows, quivers and arm guards were stolen.

"We're an all-volunteer organization," said Van Webster of Pasadena Roving Archers. "We provide archery instruction for free, and having our gear stolen was very, very disappointing."

But no sooner did word get out about the theft, then donations started coming in, and not just from the archery community, but from the greater Pasadena community.

"I'm just absolutely ecstatic," said archer Marilyn Allen. "I can't believe that we have that kind of support. It's just wonderful."

The group believes they are on target to completely restore the program because of the generosity of people they shoot side by side with, and some people they have never even met.

"It's been a terrific response," Webster said. "We just didn't expect that the public would recognize what we're doing. Even though we meet 4,000 people a year, that they would know that we had a problem, step up and help us out was very, very rewarding."
