He's a mean one, Mr. Grinch. But at least he's polite.

The Los Angeles Times reported Tuesday that a gunman robbing a Hawthorne Christmas tree lot actually apologized, mid-crime.

"A gunman apologized as he robbed a Hawthorne Christmas tree lot, saying that "times are tough," police said tonight.

The suspect made off with about $70 after robbing a salesman at the lot in the 11400 block of Inglewood Avenue, according to Hawthorne police.

Police detained the suspect. His identity was not released.
