Armed Robber Opens Fire in Convenience Store Standoff

An armed robber was fatally shot by deputies early Tuesday morning after he barricaded himself inside of an am/pm convenience store for three hours late Monday evening in La Mirada.

The standoff began shortly after 9:15 p.m. near South Beach Boulevard and Hillsborough Drive, according to Deputy Kelvin Moody of the Sheriff's Information Bureau. The man shot at the store's front windows, shattering them.

At around 12:25 a.m. Tuesday, three hours into the standoff, video showed the man walking outside of the store and shooting at authorities at the scene. Deputies fired back, killing him.

No employees or customers were reported to be inside of the store, Moody said. There were also no reports of injuries. A crisis negotiation team was requested at the scene, Moody said.

The suspect's identity has not yet been released.
