Arrest Made After Car-to-Car Shooting Closes Burbank Freeway Offramps

Thirteen hours after a car-to-car shooting closed offramps in Burbank, police made an arrest Tuesday.

A man shot another man, who police said he apparently knew, on a 5 Freeway overpass Monday night.

"It sounds as if there was a personal conflict between the two groups that started the altercation, beyond that, I don’t know at this time," Burbank Police Sgt. Claudio Losacco said.

At least one bullet passed through the windshield near the driver's side.

The 30-year-old driver was struck in the upper torso and drove away to the 1600 block of Grismer Avenue, Burbank police said.

Burbank Boulevard offramps were shut down after the car-to-car shooting, but later reopened after the investigation in the area concluded.

Police said they tracked the suspected shooter to a home on Beaver Street in Sylmar Tuesday morning.

He tried to escape out of a back door with a woman who police said was a getaway driver during the shooting the night before.

K-9s were at the ready around the house, and he was taken into custody.

"Fortunately the suspect decided at that moment to give himself up and laid on the ground and he was taken into custody without incident," Losacco said.
